Digital Sight 100

Color Digital Camera for Microscopes

A Wide Field of View and High Image Quality — Support for High-Precision, Comfortable Capturing

The Digital Sight 100 is a color digital camera for microscopes combining wide-field capture (Field Number 25), 17.7-megapixel resolution, and AdobeRGB 12-bit color support. Powered by Nikon's EXPEED 7 image processing engine, it delivers accurate color reproduction and low-noise imaging across brightfield and fluorescence applications.

Comprehensive connectivity — USB-C with power delivery, HDMI 4K output, and exclusive Wi-Fi capability — makes the Digital Sight 100 adaptable to PC-based, tablet-based, and monitor-direct workflows. The successor to the DS-Fi3 offers a significantly higher resolution, a wider field of view, and modern interfaces.

Nikon’s Photography Heritage, Brought to the Microscope

The Digital Sight 100 incorporates the same EXPEED 7 image-processing engine that powers Nikon's acclaimed mirrorless cameras like the Z9, enabling high-speed processing of high-resolution data generated by the camera. In microscopy, EXPEED 7 delivers faster frame rates, enables simultaneous image output to both an external monitor and a PC or tablet, and produces faithful color rendering across the full 12-bit pipeline. The result is images where stain differentiation is sharp, fluorescent signals emerge cleanly from background, and fine structural detail is preserved with every acquisition — automatically, without post-processing.

  • ADVANCED NOISE REDUCTION
  • FAITHFUL COLOR RENDERING
  • WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE
  • REAL-TIME 12-BIT PIPELINE
  • SIMULTANEOUS MONITOR + PC OUTPUT

Key Features

Wide-field Capture

Large FOV Imaging — Field Number 25

Wide-field photography with a Field Number of 25 enables the observation and capture of a large area in a single shot. Live sharing during monitor observation and capturing images provide a field of view equivalent to binocular vision, enhancing work efficiency.

The Digital Sight 100 captures an area approximately 3x larger than conventional Field Number 16 cameras at the same magnification. Alternatively, step up to a higher NA objective for improved resolution while maintaining equivalent coverage to previous-generation cameras.

ASPECT MODES

  • Single-shot capture of large tissue sections — H&E, Trichrome, IHC
  • Binocular-equivalent field of view for live observation
  • Reduces stitching requirements for large area imaging
  • Compatible with Nikon ECLIPSE Ni and Ti2 platforms

Color Reproduction

High-Level Color Reproduction — sRGB & Adobe RGB

AdobeRGB (Digital Sight 100) covers a significantly wider color gamut than sRGB, enabling more faithful reproduction of subtle stain differences.

In addition to the conventional sRGB color space, the adoption of Adobe RGB with its wider color gamut has extended the color reproduction capabilities. The expanded color gamut effectively enhances color reproduction for scientific imaging applications.*

Full 12-bit color depth provides 4,096 levels of tonal information per channel — preserving the subtle intensity differences critical to histochemical stain differentiation and quantitative fluorescence analysis. EXPEED 7 ensures this color accuracy is maintained in real-time during live viewing.

sRGB + ADOBE RGB

  • sRGB and Adobe RGB color space, selectable per workflow
  • 12-bit output — 4,096 tonal levels per channel
  • ICC profile compatibility for calibrated display workflows
  • Accurate rendering of common histological and IHC stains

* a display supporting the extended color gamut of Adobe RGB is required for extended gamut visualization, but not for analysis of acquired images

Fluorescence Imaging

High-Resolution Fluorescence Capturing

HeLa cells Nucleus (DAPI) , Tubulin (FITC), Mitochondria(Mito Tracker RedFM), Acquired using a Nikon standard sample.

Multi-channel fluorescence image. The 1-inch CMOS sensor collects more photons per frame, improving signal-to-noise in low-light fluorescence conditions.

The adoption of a large 1-inch CMOS sensor allows for highly sensitive capturing of images, which enhances convenience during fluorescence observation. The increased sensor area collects more photons per frame, translating directly into improved signal-to-noise ratios for weak fluorescent signals.

EXPEED 7 processing applies real-time noise reduction without compromising signal integrity, enabling confident co-localization analysis and subcellular structure visualization across multiple fluorescence channels.

  • Large 1-inch sensor maximizes fluorescence signal collection
  • EXPEED 7 real-time noise reduction preserves signal fidelity
  • Multi-channel compatibility: DAPI, FITC, TRITC and others
  • 12-bit fluorescence output for quantitative intensity analysis
  • Exposure range 100 µs–10 s for flexible illumination conditions

Remote Workflow

Remote Capturing via Wi-Fi

Two Wi-Fi connection modes: Station Mode for live streaming via a network router, and Access Point Mode for direct stable connections with multiple users.

A PC with free NIS-Elements LE software installed can be connected via Wi-Fi to capture microscope images. The Digital Sight 100 enables untethered live image streaming, remote capture, and instant data sharing without a tethered USB connection.

Two Wi-Fi connection modes are available: Station Mode for institutional network integration (conferences, lectures) and Access Point Mode for direct multi-user connections from tablets and smartphones without a router.

  • Station Mode: router-connected for conferences and lectures
  • Access Point Mode: direct multi-device connection, no router required

Connectivity

HDMI Output & USB-C Power Delivery

Digital Sight 100 — USB-C (data + power), HDMI 4K output, and USB-A host port for Wi-Fi/Ethernet dongle

An HDMI terminal is provided to allow users to connect directly to a display and view 4K images without a personal computer. PC-free observation makes the Digital Sight 100 ideal for bench setups, conference rooms, and demonstration environments.

The USB-C connector (USB 3.2 Gen 2) handles both high-speed data transfer and power delivery simultaneously — a single cable from your PC powers the camera and transfers images at up to 10 Gbps, eliminating the need for a separate AC power adapter in most setups.
