Center of Excellence for Confocal Microscopy

The Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University, has partnered with Nikon, a world-leading supplier of optical instrument technology, to establish Thailand’s first Nikon Center of Excellence for Confocal Microscopy. This state-of-the-art imaging center adds next-generation light microscopy to the university's extensive research infrastructure. It bolsters not only biomedical and clinical studies but also a wide spectrum of multidisciplinary research efforts within the faculty, as well as for external researchers from other public and private institutions. It will serve as a dynamic hub for educating the broader research community on the fundamentals of microscopy and the latest advances in imaging technology.

The center features a highly advanced Nikon imaging platform, including a flagship Nikon ECLIPSE Ti2-E AX R 2K NSPARC super-resolution confocal microscope equipped with a 4-laser unit (LUD-S4) and OKO lab Bold Line live-cell capabilities on an anti-vibration platform. Additionally, the system integrates a high-resolution DS-10 camera with a high-intensity LED fluorescence light source (DLEDi). To maximize research output, the facility utilizes Nikon’s industry-leading NIS-Elements software, incorporating Enhanced Resolution (ER), High Content Analysis (HCA), and cutting-edge NIS.ai deep-learning modules for automated and intelligent image analysis.

AX R NSPARC Confocal Microscope System

  • Nikon AX R 2K: Equipped with a dual-scanner system featuring an 8K Galvano scanner (up to 8192 x 8192 pixels) for extreme precision and ultra-high-resolution imaging, and a 2K Resonant scanner (2048 x 2048 pixels) for incredibly fast, large-area acquisition.
  • Large Field of View (FOV 25): The AX R features an industry-leading 25 mm field of view, providing a twofold increase in imaging area compared to conventional 18 mm systems.
