Nikon Customer Wins Prestigious Findeis Award

Juni 29, 2010

Dr. Christy Haynes

Nikon Instruments congratulates Dr. Christy L. Haynes, member of the Department of Chemistry, College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota and Principal Investigator for The Haynes Research Group, for winning the Analytical Chemistry Society’s Arthur F. Findeis Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of analytical chemistry.

Dr. Haynes was honored for her achievements in disciplines such as electrochemistry, nano-toxicology, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Using Nikon equipment, including two Nikon TE-2000 inverted microscopes, a Nikon Ti-U, a Nikon Ti-E and a Nikon E200 for prep work, Dr. Haynes and her team of investigators are, in her words, “dedicated to pushing the limits of analytical chemistry into biological problems.” To this end, Dr. Haynes and her team are currently conducting research across several areas, such as nano-toxicology. Specifically, Dr. Haynes and her team are studying how immune cells are affected when exposed to nano-particles, with the hopes of one day being able to have predictive capabilities for how the body might react to nanoscale materials. Another current area of study involves working with blood platelets to determine how they deliver chemical messengers. Her team is also helping make great strides in how these tiny objects are viewed under the microscope, moving away from a practice of studying static, fixed samples to using more dynamic techniques. Across these and other areas, Dr. Haynes and her talented team of researchers are helping prove, and in some cases, improve upon, general theses in a field that is rapidly making advancements thanks to ever-improving equipment, resolutions and microscope accessories.

Nikon is proud to have played its small part in Dr. Haynes’ work and wishes her continued success in her research and academic endeavors.
