Challenges

Predicting the safety and efficacy of candidate therapeutic agents requires a suite of approaches including bulk measurement and plate reader-based assays, pre-clinical animal models, and imaging-based high-content screening (HCS). HCS, in particular, offers rich insights into individual cell phenotypes and responses through a moderately high throughput, cost-effective workflow. Nonetheless, to perform HCS assays effectively and efficiently requires a flexible, automated imaging system paired with automated liquid handling and the technical know-how for using imaging probes and dyes to assay cell phenotypic responses.

Solutions

The Nikon BioImaging Lab offers HCS imaging and assay development services to help clients generate robust data for pre-clinical and early-stage toxicology studies. The NBIL is equipped with several automated microscopy systems that can be customized to different imaging workflows as well as automated liquid handling equipment for cell culture, compound treatment and staining. Moreover, NBIL scientists provide expertise in 2D/3D cell culture (organoid and spheroid), experimental design and image analysis with software tools. Altogether, NBIL can help obtain the critical insights into safety and efficacy, mechanism of action and pharmacology to drive decision-making.
