Nikon BioImaging Lab and Babraham Research Campus Announce Launch of the Illumination Program through LiveLabs to Empower UK Life Science Start-Ups

feb 6, 2026

Cambridge, UK — Nikon BioImaging Lab (NBIL), in collaboration with Babraham Research Campus, is proud to announce the launch of the Illumination Program—a pioneering initiative designed to support UK-based life science start-ups and scale-ups in overcoming microscopy imaging and analysis challenges.

The Illumination Program, launched through LiveLabs, offers early-stage companies free access to cutting-edge microscopy technology, expert guidance, and a community of innovators. The program addresses a critical bottleneck for emerging businesses: access to advanced microscopy imaging equipment, specialist expertise, and scalable assay design.

“The Illumination Program is our commitment to levelling the playing field for innovative UK companies, ensuring they have the resources and support to accelerate their scientific journey,” said Ziryan Othman, Manager of NBIL Europe.

Key Benefits of the Illumination Program:

  • Access to Advanced Technology: Members receive preferred pricing on Nikon microscopy products and services, plus complimentary pilot data for companies at the funding stage.
  • Expert Support: Participants benefit from free consultations with Nikon experts and exclusive access to the Nikon Knowledge Hub, including early access and discounts for Nikon-led events.
  • Collaboration & Community: The program provides opportunities to showcase businesses at NBIL days and to connect with a growing ecosystem of start-ups, scale-ups, investors, and industry leaders.

“We’re delighted to welcome Nikon Bioimaging Lab as a LiveLabs sponsor,” said Jenny Hirst, Senior Lead Science and Entrepreneurship “As a cell biologist, I know firsthand how transformative the right imaging tools can be. The Illumination Program gives early stage companies access not only to cutting-edge technology, but also to the scientific expertise and collaborative community they need to push their ideas further and faster.”
